Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)

If you are considering living and working permanently in Alberta, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) may be the immigration channel for you. The AINP is designed to support Alberta's economic growth by attracting labour-market-destined immigrants to the province.
Individuals nominated by the Province of Alberta, together with their spouse and dependent children, are eligible to apply for a permanent resident visa through CIC as a Provincial Nominee. CIC makes final decisions on the permanent resident applications.
The process for applying to the AINP is different, depending on the stream and category you are applying under. Alberta’s Immigration Categories are:
- Skilled Worker Category
The Skilled Worker Category of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is intended for skilled occupations for which formal education and/or specialized training is required.
International Graduate Category
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) considers the possibility of filling a skill shortage in an Alberta business with an eligible international graduate.
Semi-Skilled Worker Category
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) will consider an employer’s business case for selected occupations in the Food and beverage processing industry, the Hotel and lodging industry, the Manufacturing industry, the Trucking industry, and the Food services industry.
Compulsory Trades Category
To be eligible in this category, you must have successfully completed the Qualification Certificate Program with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) and possess both the Qualification Certificate for the Compulsory Trade and letter of invitation from AIT.
Engineering Occupations Category
To be eligible in this category, you must have education and training as an engineer, designer, or drafter and have Alberta work experience in an eligible AINP engineering occupation.
U.S. Visa Holder Category
To be eligible in this category, you must be currently working in the United States on a valid temporary skilled worker visa in an occupation that is in demand in Alberta.
Family Stream
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) will consider applications under the Family Stream from Albertans who want to sponsor eligible family members to immigrate to the province.
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is designed to assist farm owner/operators with proven management skills and significant financial resources, to develop a sustainable growth orientated farming business in Alberta.
