Opportunities Ontario: Provincial Nominee Program is an immigration program through which Ontario nominates individuals and their families for permanent resident status based on a pre-approved job offer in the province. The Government of Ontario established Opportunities Ontario to help employers succeed in the global competition for talent.
Once you are nominated by the province, you must submit your Ontario PNP and federal immigration application package directly to the appropriate CIC visa office. CIC will conduct criminal, security and health checks on your application. It may also request an interview or additional information. CIC will make the final selection decision on whether you will be issued a permanent resident visa.
The categories of the Opportunities Ontario Provincial Nominee Program are:
Employers first apply for approval of the positions they intend to fill. If the positions are approved, employers then recruit individuals who must apply to Opportunities Ontario for a nomination. Eligible individuals are nominated, along with their dependants, for permanent resident status.
If you are a foreign worker, you may be able to apply to Opportunities Ontario for nomination as a permanent resident, under the General Category. However, it is important to understand that Opportunities Ontario is employer-driven. This means that if you are seeking nomination, you can apply only if your prospective employer has first applied for pre-screening of a position, if your position has been approved, or if your prospective employer has provided you with the Nominee Application package from Opportunities Ontario. Investors need to have their investment endorsed.
If you are an international student, you may be able to apply to Opportunities Ontario for nomination as a permanent resident, under the International Student Category. However, you must have completed at least half of your studies in Canada, and have graduated or will soon be graduating from an eligible publicly funded Canadian college or university (students must send proof of graduation with their application).
